Genres: Dystopia, New AdultSynopsis:
Twenty-two -year-old Naya has spent nearly half her life as a sex slave in a government institution called The Line. When she’s kicked out after getting pregnant with twins, she’s got no way to earn a living and a horrifying choice to make: find someone to replace her, or have her babies taken in her stead.
A doctor with a history of aiding ex-Line girls, Ric Bennett, wants to help. He runs a team of rebels that can delete Naya’s records and free her forever. But when The Line sniffs out his plan, things get bloody, fast. Naya means more to them than just a chance at fresh faces—her twins are part of the government’s larger plan.
As they hide from government search parties, Ric comes to admire Naya’s quiet strength. And Naya realizes Ric might be a man she can trust. If they make it off the grid, they could build a new life. But first they’ll have to survive the long, vicious reach of The Line.
This took me a bit to get into to be honest. I had too many questions and not enough answers!
I did get some of thise ansers as it went on though so that makes me happy.
Naya is working on “the line” basically is a prostitute/slave in a dystopian world and it is all she knows. Until she is thrown out in the “real world.”
Her eyes open to everything that the government is doing to their world. Oh and she’s also pregnant.
Trying to stand on her own two feet and do what the official at the Line asked her to do is hard.
She makes a friend though. Not a BFF just someone. She convinves her to go to a Doctor and get a seconf opinion about the pregnancy.
This is where she meets “Doc” and her world CHANGES.
Doc is against everything that happens on the line. He is against the whole government and with the help of a few friends decides that he is going to help Naya get out of their hold.
Can it be done? Who is Doc and why is he helping her? Will she ever be free? How is she pregnant?
All these questions are going through my head about this time.
As always in a post-apocalyptic story there is a big “F U” to the government and we are left with a “happy for now” it’s not a HUGE cliffhanger but it is enough to make you want more.
Ok so I know your asking why 3.5 stars?
Well the characters. It took me a really long time to warm up to them. Any of them.
I was bored and actually considered DNF’ing to be honest. Then I got to about 30% and things really started happening.
I personally liked the “dream flashbacks” was they gave me more insight what was happening as before that it was just being told what I was supposed to feel.
Doc and Naya grew on me. I wouldn’t say they were my fav people ever. But I ended up liking them and will read the next when it’s out.
As a huge fan of Dystopian I liked where the storyline was going, even if I don’t understand it completely.
It gives a new take on a old tale.
